Look, you are a man, and so you should be prepared. It’s in our nature to want to see things built up and then even maybe destroyed. We have gathered together a list of 10 tools every man should have around.
We like to be handy and helpful whenever we can, especially if someone asks for our expertise. But how could you get the job done if you lack the proper tools? Exactly! You can’t!
And you know what? Even non-interested persons should take a look because you never know when you might need them and save some money.
Tape Measure
You needed this one in at least one area of your life at one point or another. This is one for the ages and should go by the “measure twice, cut once” rule. It will come in handy in various tasks when it comes to planning.
You have to measure walls, planks, furniture, doors, maybe even human beings. Do you want to know if that cool new bike you are planning to buy will fit into your garage? Well, the tape measure will give the answer.
Screwdrivers
This one comes in the plural form because you need lots of shapes and sizes. You will come across tons of objects that will require screwing regardless of their purpose or scope. There are quite a lot of head types, but we highly recommend the flathead and Philips.
Get at least two sizes for each one of them. One on the smaller side and one regular. If you are into smaller accessories like glasses or even techy gadgets like a hard drive, you can even get a set of jewelry screwdrivers. They conveniently come in a box so you will not lose them.
Hammer
And we’re not talking about the rapper. This one is a no-brainer. It barely needs an explanation. Hammers have lots of uses around the house and even outside. They always come in handy even if you are not usually a handyman.
You can put nails into walls, unplug nails, create wholes, fixate mobile parts, tighten alternator belts, and so on.
There are lots of varieties and sizes when it comes to hammers, but unless you are working in the construction field, a regular-sized wooden-handled one should do the job just fine.
Crescent (Adjustable) Wrench
This is one of the most well-recognized forms in the tools industry. It has a little adjuster that you can move with your thumb. This way, you can control the grip and also the size of the claw.
Most of us forget which way we should turn the adjuster in order to tighten or lighten, but that is okay. You will laugh at your own mistake and be content with the fact that you will never get it right from the first try.
The crescent or adjustable wrench is the user to tighten up nuts and bolts. It should be used with the adjuster as tight as possible in order to avoid slipping that could result in wearing out the nut.
Another good thing to remember is to keep the fixated part of the end behind the direction you are planning to turn. Last but not least, fully tighten up the wrench after you have finished your job. This will make you look professional if someone sees your toolbox.
Box/Open-end Wrench Set
These ones should come together in a package. They are loyal companions to every handyman around. Each one of them has a fixed size, so the nuts will not get damaged as easily.
They are also quite thin, so they will effortlessly fit into tight spaces. Usually, the most useful one tends to be the combination wrench. It has a box on one end and is open on the other. They come in all various sizes, but the most common range from 7mm to 16mm.
Pliers (Channel Lock, Vice Grips, Needle-Nose)
This category has many members. You can find different variants all over the place, with each and every one of them serving a specific purpose.
They are all useful in their own department, and you should consider buying the best combination. The most important tend to be the vice grips and the needle-nose pliers.
Everybody has seen a grandpa working with a needle-nose on some sort of watch or a small object. These pliers are great, especially when it comes to precise jobs.
The fact that they have a wire cutter included makes them even handier. If you are planning to do some electric work, you will need a wire stripper. As the name suggests, this is for stripping the wires’ coating, so keep this in mind.
Socket Wrench
The socket wrenches are especially handy when working on cars, but have other uses as well. They are very fun to use and make a satisfying click when you spin them around. You can get an extender for them in order to reach difficult spots. You use one of these socket wrenches by popping the socket onto the handle.
After these, make sure to turn the lever in the opposite direction of the way you would want to turn your nut or bolt. So, in short, to tighten, turn the lever counter-clockwise. If you want to loosen, just turn the lever clockwise. Simple as that.
Utility Knife
Sometimes you will come across things that have to be cut. Packages, duck tapes, plastics, linoleum, curtains, paper, and so on.
This type of product is usually very portable as it has a retractable blade. Keep in your pocket or tool case, and you are good to go.
Allen Wrench Set
Now, when you see these, you might think of IKEA and all the annoying memories they created for you when you had to build up that furniture by yourself. These are actually quite useful in all sorts of environments.
They are also known as hex wrenches from their hexagonal ends. The body is L-shaped, and they are specialized in certain usages such as bicycles, guitars, and other pieces.
Pipe Wrench
Quite a lot of wrenches, huh? Well, they are much needed. This lad tends to be quite heavy and suitable for more hardcore jobs.
It has an adjustable grip and a claw. It can be used with all kinds of pipes, and it can thread fittings for assembly or disassembly. Consider this a must-have when it comes to sewage.
This was our list of 10 tools every man should have. We hope you enjoy it and you will find it useful in the future!
